One of the main challenges of enjoying home music at high sound quality is the cable clutter. If this is one of your issues, the way to go is definitely wireless speakers. The market for wireless speakers is now big. But if you don't do your initial research you run the risk of a false purchase.

So what should you consider before buying wireless speakers?

Three things you should know when you buy wireless speakers:

1. The Speaker Setup  System and Terminology – 2.0, 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1

Speaker setup system 2.0:  This means that there are only two speakers nothing more.

Speaker setup system 2.1:   This means that the system comes with two speakers and one sub-woofer. Speaker setup system  5.1: This  means  there are  5 speakers and one sub-woofer.

A 2.1 system is  more than enough for computer system.  A slightly better sound could come from a 3.1 system.  Many people highly recommend this system.

A  5.1 or 7.1 system  is better for home theater or TV.  It is an over kill for a computer unless you listen to a lot of music and really enjoy the extra power.   If you watch a log of movies in your computer, that might be a reason to buy a 4.1 or a 7.1 system.

A higher system is more difficult to install.  Even though it is a wireless speaker system, there is wiring involved.

2. Communication through USB or Bluetooth?

Wireless speakers communicate through Radio Frequencies (RF) or through Bluetooth.  These are the most common technology available to a normal consumer.  RF systems are installed through USB cables.

At present, you have two options when buying wireless computer speakers – RF USB, or Bluetooth. The Bluetooth technology (also used in cell phones) is a more recent technology.

Although more expensive, Bluetooth technology is a more recent and a better technology.  It also usually has a wider range than a normal RF system.

RF systems have been around for some time.  They usually less reliable and the sound quality may not be as good.  There could be also interferences, especially through wi-fi divices.  If you have the budget, the Bluetooth system is definitely the way to go.

 3. Compatibility with multiple sound devices:

Nowadays, people listen to music from various devices, radio, TV, iphones, iPads, android phones, just to mention a few.  If you are spending the money to buy wireless speakers, it is best when you buy something that  is compatible with as many of your devices as possible.  Especially if you are buying a 5.1 system or higher.  The wireless systems that work on USB may be less compatible.  Usually there are alternative ports or adapters for connecting the speakers various devices.  Understanding compatibility issues when buying wireless speakers will help you enjoy your system more.

First, there is a misconception that a wireless speaker needs no cables. You do require some cable because after-all these devices require electricity. There are also devices with rechargeable batteries. Since these batteries have a limited power duration before they need to be re-charged, they are not recommended.

In terms of sound quality, wireless speakers are technically now as good as wired speakers. These devices are sometimes equipped with a subwoofer, so the bass are not neglected, and the sound experience is very rich.

But sometimes if you notice that the wireless speakers interfere with other wireless devices, it may be that your wireless network is subject to fluctuations.

So if you value for cable-free living room environment, purchase of wireless speakers is definitely recommended. If you want sound for multiple rooms simultaneously with music, these devices are also right for you.
